This one-day workshop brings together EUI Early Career Researchers, with support from the Scuola Normale Firenze and the Central European University, who are working broadly on the history of women’s lives and aims to examine new approaches to women’s history. It will discuss how the dominant historical narratives can be re-centered by the use of new methodologies and sources, such as ego documents. Changing the perspective from macrohistory to microhistory, it will analyze the role of individual actors, their actions, ideas, and their understanding of the social, political, economic, and cultural contexts they lived in.
Panel 1 – Non-Conforming Selves and Otherness: Early Modern and Modern Approaches to Women’s Lives
Panel 2 – Contemporary Encounters: Sources, Methods, Practices
Keynote – Prof. Emerita of Gender Studies Francisca de Haan (CEU), who will be discussing her most recent publication The Palgrave Handbook of Communist Women Activists around the World (Feb 2023) with particular attention to Clara Zetkin, Alexandra Kollontai, and Claudia Jones.
