Lecture – A rich woman’s world? Wealth and gendered paths to office – 26 April 2024

A- A A+

Presentation by Rachel Bernhard (University of Oxford) in the framework of the Comparative Politics Seminar Series organised by the EUI Department of Social and Political Sciences

26 April 2024, 17.00, Sala del Capitolo – Badia Fiesolana

In this seminar session, Rachel Bernhard (University of Oxford) introduces and seeks to explain a new and surprising fact about members of the US Congress: since at least the 1980s, Congresswomen have been substantially wealthier than Congressmen serving in the same party and decade. She articulates three mechanisms that could explain this gender wealth gap, and uses new data on the backgrounds and families of members of Congress to evaluate each mechanism
