An interview with EUI researcher Kamil Karczewski on Queer Lives in Interwar Poland

Kamil Karczewski, a PhD researcher at the EUI’s Deparment of History and Civilisation, gave an interview on the topic of his thesis – and on the current state of queer affairs in Poland.

What may be less known to many, both inside and outside the country, is that Poland was the first country in Europe (bar Russia) to actually decriminalise homosexuality in the interwar period, as part of a nation-building effort beginning in 1918, when the country was re-established after World War I“.
